Position Details

Specialist II Communications
South Florida
Miami, FL


The Communications Specialist is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of internal and external communication tactics and programs as part of Southern Glazer’s Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility Department. This role will ensure effective integration of all communication methods and channels to cultivate awareness and to provide clarity, consistency and maximum communication impact among all internal and external audiences.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement effective public relations programs to support the company’s strategic priorities and enhance its reputation as an industry leader and socially responsible business 
  • Secure impactful media coverage for Southern Glazer’s subject matter experts, solutions, and the overall brand, including pitching and engaging trade and business reporters, facilitating media interviews and writing/editing bylined articles 
  • Draft press releases and other external communications materials on corporate social responsibility programs, wine and spirits trends, business wins, strategic partnerships and initiatives, events, and personnel announcements 
  • Support on implementation of enterprise Corporate Social Responsibility programs 
  • Provide support to the internal communications team with various writing and creative projects, including contributing and posting to SGNN Intranet site 
  • Provide support to the crisis management team in crisis planning and response 
  • Collect local market CSR activity and compile for potential use on employee intranet site, social media and Philanthropy report 
  • Actively monitor national business and trade media for industry trends, issues, and company and competitor news 
  • Maintain corporate fact sheets and executive bios 
  • Maintain and fulfill a monthly and yearly trade publication editorial calendar 
  • Write monthly features stories for external website. 
  • Manage Cision daily news and social media platform for monitoring and preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual news reports 
  • Support implementation and administration of new volunteering and fundraising platform, YourCause 
  • Manage the company’s corporate social media program and supervise social media coordinator 
  • Contribute to the development of annual social media strategy and calendar as part of the overall Public Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility plan

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree plus 3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Demonstrated writing and editing skills with a demonstrated ability to distill, organize and convey complex information in a logical, visually pleasing, and user-friendly manner with the ability to direct communications at broad audiences 
  • Experience practicing media relations in corporate or agency environment 
  • Proven success in getting articles and news stories published in national, local and trade publications, online news, blogs and broadcast outlets 
  • Experience planning and executing events, including logistics and speech writing

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of organizational communications and media relations and their impact on a business with experience in developing proactive, innovative corporate communications campaigns and leading internal and external communications functions, and community relations
  • Experience conveying messages and information using creative approaches that may involve creative graphic design, multi-media, social media, and video production and editing, preferably within an online organization 
  • Experience using SharePoint or similar internal communications tools 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Verbal communication/presentation skills with demonstrated ability to tailor messages to specific constituencies 
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, coworkers, other business areas and government agencies as required 
  • Planning and organizational skills necessary to coordinate workload around multiple assignments
