We are the largest and most efficient food bank in each of the counties we serve. More than 98% of all donations are put back into the community. For every $1 donated to us, we can provide 6 meals.

Through direct-service programs and a network of nonprofit partner agencies, including soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, and day cares, Feeding South Florida rescues 44 million pounds of food per year, as well as leads hunger and poverty advocacy efforts and provides innovative programming and education.

The Communications Manager (CM) helps develop and implement relevant and creative communications strategies to engage Feeding South Florida’s (FSF) diverse constituencies for the purposes of increasing and promoting a positive brand and name recognition within the community, while simultaneously positively increasing awareness of the mission and fundraising efforts. Under the direction of the Executive Vice President (EVP), this position works to achieve brand consistency and the highest standards for both internal and external communications. The CM oversees media relationships and is responsible for managing direct mail and PR vendors, content generation, marketing, and public relations efforts. The CM is a lover of linguistics, has impeccable grammar skills, a strong command of the written and spoken word, is a fan of AP Style guidelines, embraces cutting-edge technology, and has a wicked sense of humor.


  • With the EVP, develop, oversee, and implement FSF’s communications strategy including marketing, public relations, direct mail, traditional and social media, content generation, creative brand elements, and copy material. 
  • Manage and liaise with FSF’s contracted public relations and direct mail vendors to ensure deadlines and production schedules, brand standards, and style guidelines are met. 
  • Identify new vendors and subject-matter experts as necessary. 
  • Manage FSF’s Communications Coordinator, ensuring professional, accurate, and timely work, understanding all aspects of the position and possess the ability to cover gaps as necessary. 
  • Develop a strategic, and ongoing communications and marketing calendar, with contracted partners and FSF team members, ensuring it’s a living document that’s followed. 
  • Review all external mass communications prior to their dissemination, ensuring accuracy and reflective of FSF’s voice. 
  • Identify and oversee the creation of necessary collateral materials for major organization initiatives across all departments. 
  • Maintain FSF Style + Brand Guidelines including oversight of all brand guideline breaches both internally and externally. 
  • Research and make recommendations for cutting-edge technology applications to improve communications, including, but not limited to, social media, mass e-mail software, web design, and digital remarketing. 
  • Assist the EVP as necessary.


  • Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in communications or similar field. 
  • At least five years’ experience in the communications/public relations/marketing arenas. 
  • At least three years of management experience in the communications/public relations/marketing arenas. 
  • Demonstrated success and experience with media pitching and relationship management. 
  • Impeccable grammar, vocabulary, and communications skills, both verbal and written, with knowledge of, and adherence to, AP Style guidelines. 
  • Proficiency in social media and affinity for cutting-edge communications technology. 
  • Creativity, innovative vision, and passion for out-of-the-box thinking. 
  • Detail-oriented person, capable of working under pressure, and multi-tasking while working with several projects and consistently meeting deadlines. 
  • Ability to work in a professional team environment, ensuring tact and positivity are always maintained. 
  • Effective time management and innovative problem-solving skills. 
  • Interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution and respect for cultural diversity. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with community leaders, donors, volunteers, media representatives and other staff, both orally and via the written word.

  • Nonprofit experience, bilingual, photography and basic graphic design knowledge are all a plus! 
  • Must maintain a valid Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation.
