Communications Intern

We are seeking a student pursuing a degree in Communications or related field who are in their third or fourth year in a college/university setting who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in the field of Communications. The internship will run from May 21 – August 10, and will provide you with a unique insight into the Communications Office over the course of the 12-week program. This paid internship will also provide you with an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and learn valuable skills to create a foundation for success in your future endeavors.

The Communications Intern is responsible for supporting the Communications department and will gain insight into the inner workings of Communications administration, publications, website, social media, media relations, event planning, community outreach and public relations. The perfect candidate will be open to a variety of assignments and projects and be able to serve as a team player and generate new ideas for the department.

Normal Day-to-Day Work:

  • Assist with daily and weekly Communications administrative duties including processing paperwork, monitoring and tracking reports and related responsibilities. 
  • Work alongside the Communications team in assisting with researching topics and planning for our printed and digital communications. 
  • Support the Communications team with community outreach programs. 
  • Support the Human Resources team with the planning and coordinating any events or meetings. 
  • Work alongside the Manager and Communications specialist to plan and host our June Member Advisory Committee (MAC) Meetings. 
  • Leverage knowledge of social media and website design to assist staff with the redesign of intranet and internet. 
  • Gain hands on experience with printed and digital communications, media relations, event planning and a variety of other tasks. 
  • Assist Communications team with various research projects and/or special projects such as our 20 year celebration. 
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism

Here are a few skills you MUST have to be considered for this position:

  • Working towards a BA/BS in Communications, or related field. 
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) proficiency. 
  • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  • Ability to function in a consumer business office environment and utilize standard office equipment including but not limited to: PC, copier, telephone, etc. 
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. (file boxes, computer printer). 
  • Travel required on occasion.
